Homelessness is not just an issue that effects the United States. Unfortunately, there are people around the world who remain homeless despite governmental acts hoping to bring them into safe shelters. In the United Kingdom, there are an estimated 11,000 classified as “rough sleepers” who literally make their beds on city streets or in alleys. In addition, there are almost 100,000 families that are being housed in temporary places.
Canada reportedly has over 150,000 homeless people scattered across their territories, while Australia has around 110,000 homeless people. The United States tops the charts with a reported 675,000 homeless individuals in our country. Studies have shown that the vast majority of these people are continually homeless rather than facing a temporary problem between housing accommodations. Over 1.5 million homeless people stayed in shelters or temporary accommodations in the past year in the United States. Many of these people were misplaced after natural disasters or economic plummet resulting in unemployment.
While homelessness is a worldwide problem, there has to be a solution that could work for everyone. With so much wealth circulating in our world, it is completely inexcusable for this many people to remain homeless. Find a way to make a difference in the life of a homeless person by providing a hot meal, some clean clothes, or a place of shelter.
